HOOF founder and creative director Erik Hay played a key role in shaping the creative strategy for Wētā Workshop Unleashed, and later worked as lead writer, creative contributor and steering group member.

The idea was to create a fictional film studio at SkyCity that was producing three original genre films. This way Wētā Workshop could showcase its creative process without the constraints of licensed IP. Erik collaborated with a small team to define the studio concept, develop the films and write the core visitor journey, including scripted content for screens and hosts.

Wētā Workshop Unleashed received Gold at the Best Awards, First Place for Storytelling and Themed Entertainment at Blooloop, and top honours at the Themed Entertainment Association Thea Awards for Brand Experience and Immersive Reality.
